I Like This Town

I like this town when there’s people around
Like an old bamboozled friend who keeps the tension down.
Or a girl and her daddy, they laugh outside their car.
Pretty late at night when you might be scared from walking far.
I like this town, it can lock me down,
away from the scenes that used to be.
I like this town, it can lock me down,
could be the place that sets me free.
Airplanes landing, cars rushing by,
TV playing low, socks and jeans are tumbling dry.
Sometimes I crack up, sometimes I cry.
But here the branches fan like lace across the clear blue sky.
I like this town, it can lock me down,
away from the troubles of the week.
I like this town, it can lock me down,
and wrap its arms around my knees.
Seagull inland, lord knows that she is lost.
All the matters is she finds true love at any cost.
Dip in the fountain, then down Mechanic Street.
Soon she’ll touch the ground, but her wings will not miss a beat.
I like this town, it can lock me down,
Yeah, there are things I’ll never see.
I like this town, it can lock me down,
And that’s just what happened to me.
