Cincinnati

Redeye, L.A., way too much to say.
How have I been untrue? Let me count the ways.
First I ignored you, ‘cause you know me too well.
Then when I embraced you, I didn’t do it well.
I went around the issues, I painted things too bright.
Now I’m gonna fix it, as we sit here tonight.

Cincinnati, I’m gonna let it out in an overdue confession on your pages.
Cincinnati, there is so much room, between your lines and in my mind.
There’s a place for it all, and tonight I’ll sleep into a very deep fall.

You may not have the answers, but still you’re good for me.
It’s been since Yosemite: we have a history.
First I talked to you in backwards poetry.
Then I’d just unload about who said what to me.
I told a bunch of stories about a bunch of boys.
Then things got so cloudy, and quiet with the noise.

But Cincinnati, I’m gonna let it go, and don’t care if my hands tremble.
Cincinnati, I know that you know, so please accept what I have assembled.
There’s a place for it all, and tonight I’ll sleep into a very deep fall.

There’s a place for it all, and tonight I’ll sleep into a very deep fall.

I’ll carry you with me all the time.
When it’s nice we’ll do our thing outside.
You know I owe so very much to you.
It’s through you I tell myself what to do.
And from now on I swear to you, I’ll only ever tell you,
I’ll only ever tell you,
I’ll only ever tell you,
The truth.
